🧬 Genetics & Machines

The Genetics system allows you to artificially extract DNA and combine it to create powerful new sheep variations.

💉 Syringes & DNA Extraction

To begin your genetic experiments, you need a Syringe. Right-click on a mob with an empty syringe to extract its DNA. However, not all syringes are strong enough to pierce every mob's skin! You will need to upgrade your syringe to extract DNA from more dangerous creatures.

Here is exactly what each Syringe tier can target:

  • Iron Syringe: Works on peaceful and basic creatures. This includes animals (like Sheep, Cows, and Pigs), Villagers, Water Animals (Fish, Squids), Bats, Allays, and Golems. Cannot be used on hostile monsters or Shulkers.
  • Diamond Syringe: Works on everything the Iron Syringe does, plus hostile creatures! This allows you to extract DNA from Monsters (Zombies, Creepers, Skeletons), Slimes, and Flying Mobs (Ghasts, Phantoms). Cannot be used on the Wither or the Warden.
  • Netherite Syringe: The ultimate extraction tool. It works on almost every mob in the game, allowing you to finally extract DNA from the terrifying Warden and Bosses like the Wither or the Ender Dragon!

💉 Syringe Upgrades

You start with an Iron Syringe, but it can be upgraded to Diamond and Netherite using the Smithing Table. To do this, you need a specific Smithing Template. You can find a diamond smithing template in two ways:

  1. Loot: Found randomly in chests inside Shepherd village houses.
  2. Trading: A Level 3 Shepherd Villager has about a 26% chance to sell it to you for Emeralds.

🔬 The DNA Sequencer

Once you have a filled Syringe, you need to analyze it. Place the filled Syringe into the DNA Sequencer. Provide the machine with FE, and it will begin analyzing the DNA.

Once finished, the sequence is saved in the machine's internal memory.

🧬 The DNA Splicer

The DNA Splicer is where the magic happens. This machine takes two different DNA sequences and attempts to splice them together to create a new mutation. With the default config this machine needs to be adjacent to a DNA Sequencer.

Check the Crossbreeding Category in JEI to see which DNA combinations produce which results!

🥚 Suspicious Spawn Egg

When the DNA Splicer finishes its operation, it will output a Suspicious Spawn Egg.

However, you won't know if the mutation was a success or a failure just by looking at it! Simply place this egg on the ground to hatch it and reveal your creation. Will it be a brand new, powerful genetic mutation, or a failed experiment?
